Dr M Leelavathy

Teacher, literary critic and writer
Dr. M Leelavathy is a teacher, literary critic and writer from Kerala. She has won the Padma Shri Award. She has won many awards such as the Odakuzhal Award(1978) and Kerala Sahithya Akademi Award(1980) for Varnaraji, Kendra Sahithya Akademi Award(1986) for Kavithadhwani, Lalithambika Antarjanam Award (1999), Vallathol Award (2002), Basheer Award (2005),Guptan Nair Memorial Award (2007), Vayalar Ramavarma Award(2007) for Appuvinte Anweshanam, and FACT MKK Nayar Award (2009). In an inaugural address to the Albertian College of Engineering she said that a human life will become complete and meaningful only once he/she understands good poetries, stories and classic novels. She also said that reading habits should not be syllabus-centric but value-centric.

Kerala, the most literate Indian state where reading is in the blood of common man and freedom of expression is sacrosanct, is at the forefront of nurturing a literary eco system that transcends beyond boundaries. Today, the Government of Kerala takes a leap and brings together literary lovers across the globe through an international platform – International Book Fair 2019. The fair which will be held from 8th -17th february 2019 at the Marine Drive grounds, Kochi, Kerala, will be a one of kind platform for international, national and local publishers who wish to reach out to the most well informed audiences with a rich literary lineage.
