Indian poet
K G Shankarapillai is a prominent poet in Malayalam. He came to prominence in the 1970’s with the publication of Bengal and is now most popular among the modernist poets of Kerala. He has been teaching literature since 1971 and retired in 2002 as the principal of Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam. He is an accomplished translator, having translated into Malyalam, many poetry works from around the world. He has been the editor of several important Malayalam literary journals like Prasakthi and Samakaleena Kavitha. He has publised a collection of writings on different aspects of theatre, titled Samvidhayaka Sankalpam. His other works include Kochiyile Vrikshangal(1994), K G Sankara Pillayude Kavithakal (1997), KGS Kavithakal(2008), and Samvidhayaka Sankalpam(2010). Major awards he has received are Kerala Sahithya Akademi Award(1998), Kendra Sahithya Akademi Award(2002), Odakkuzhal Award,(2009) and P Kunhiraman Nair Award(2008).
