Suriyakanthan was Born in the year of 1955 in Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. Retired as Professor in Tamil from Government Arts College, Coimbatore. Sivappu Nila, Ivargal Kathirukkirargal, Veera Vamsam (Poetry Collections) Ini Poruppathillai,Paal Manathu,Thottathil Oru Veedu,Viduthalai Kilikal, Vetkai, Uravuchirakukal, Oru Thozhilaliyin Diary, Rathappozhuthukal, Muthukkal Pathu, Payanankal, Suryakanthan Sirukathaikal (Short Story Collections) Amman Poovodu, Vithaicholam, Manavari Manitharkal, Oru Vayalveliyin Kathai, Poorvika Bhoomi, Prathibimbankal, Ethirethir Konankal, Chuvadukal Azhivathillai, Kizhakku Vanam,Kal Vazhai,Vidi Velli (Novels) Kovai Mavatta Koyilkal, Vrukshamum Viruthukalum, Thirai Isaiyil Ilakkiya Mudraikal, Ermunaikku Ner, Manankalai Varudum Mayiliraku, Tamil Novalkalil Grama Samudayam, Ponkum Poompunal (Essay Collections) Are his major literary contributions. Marikkarine Kathirikkunna Manushyar, Vithacholam, Mayachuvadu, Poorvika Bhoomi, Oru Vayalinte Katha, Kizhakku Vanam and Vipareetha Konankal were translated into Malayalam. His works were included in the syllabus of Bharathiyar,Bharathi Dasan, Madurai Kamaraj, Annamalai,Chennai, Kerala, Karnataka Universities.85 M.Phils and 25 PhDs were submitted based on his works.He is announcer at ‘Mayiliraku’ programme at Coimbatore FM radio.Many of his works were translated into English, Malayalam,Kannada and Hindi. He was received Akhilan Smaraka Award,Ilakkiya Sinthanai, Ilakkiya Veethi, Lilly Devasikhamani,Tamil Nadu Kalai Ilakkiya Peravai and Bharathiyar University Tamizharinjar Award.
