Sitaram Yechury
The powerful leading force of the Communist Movement in the country, Sitaram Yechury is the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was arrested in 1975 during the Emergency while he was a student at JNU. Yechury’s active participation in organizing resistance during the Emergency ended up in his arrest. He has headed the party’s international department and represented the party on several International platforms.
